This sets the stage for a course of events that will radically alter Quentin’s life. Quentin closes his eyes and when he opens them, he finds he is standing beneath a hot summer sky, staring across a very deep and green lawn at an old Victorian building. The wind gets a hold of the folded notepaper and carries it into a garden. Quentin follows the notepaper to the garden, but as he enters, everything becomes quiet and the air starts to warm. When Quentin opens the envelope, he finds a notebook entitled “The Magicians,” and a small piece of paper tucked into the pages.
Quentin encounters a female paramedic at the scene, and the paramedic gives Quentin an envelope. You must read this book to find out more about this world in which good and evil aren’t black and white, sex and love aren’t simple and power comes at an unthinkable cost.The person who is to conduct Quentin’s college interview for Princeton passes away just as Quentin is about to arrive to the interview he and his friend, James, are the first ones to come upon the body. With a devastating shocker to Quentin, his childhood dreams fade away and reality takes hold. Magic fails to bring him the happiness that he had initially thought. Quentin later finds that the fantasy land he used to read about in his books does exist, but in a twisted and horrific way. Quentin is chosen while Julia’s memory is erased to prevent her from recalling the existence of magic and the peculiar school.
Julia also attempts to pass the exam but she is unsuccessful. This is a magic school and there is room for only twenty students. Quentin later ditches his interview for Princeton and instead gives an interview to Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy. Quentin is best friends with James and Julia and attends an advanced school. This novel tells the story of a young man by the name of Quentin Coldwater who attends a secretive college of magic in New York.
